Dear Authors,

We plan to prepare a special issue of the Journal of the Serbian Society for Computational Mechanics (JSSCM) (Vol 6, Number 1, 2012) which will be devoted to celebration of the 70th birthday of Prof. Milos Kojic, Corresponding Member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Editor of JSSCM and President of the Serbian Society for Computational Mechanics (SSCM).

Professor Kojic is a world-known scientist with significant contributions in computational mechanics and its application in various engineering and bioengineering problems. He is the founder of the modern Serbian school of computer methods and software development. As a professor at University of Kragujevac he has mentored over the past several decades more than 30 MS and PhD students who participated in the development of the FE software PAK. This software is currently being used on a daily basis by more than 40 Serbian researchers in several fields of engineering and bioengineering.  He is the first President of the SSCM and the founder of the R&D Center for Bioengineering.

This special issue will reflect Professor Kojic’s effort to nurture international collaborations with the aim of providing opportunities for Serbian scientists to participate in research at the world’s leading institutions. Today, as a direct result of these efforts, the Serbian Society for Computational Mechanics is as a member of International Association of Computational Mechanics and ECCOMAS, and has friends all over the world.

                                                           Editorial

Journal of the Serbian Society for Computational Mechanics
is the official journal of the SERBIAN SOCIETY FOR COMPUTATIONAL MECHANICS (SSCM), member of International Association for Computational Mechanics (IACM) and European Community on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences (ECCOMAS).

The Serbian Society for Computational Mechanics was founded during The First South-East European Conference on Computational Mechanics (SEECCM 06) held in Kragujevac, 28-30 June 2006. At this Conference the participants enthusiastically decided to establish the SSCM on June 28, 2006. We here present the original of the founding document, prepared at the meeting by Professors Onate and Papadrakakis, and hand-written by Professor Manolis Papadrakakis, with signatures of the participants. The document specifies the basic aims of the SSCM.
